Book a trip or camp
The Bilingual Connection has two areas of interest, organising trips to Ireland for French students to improve their English, both EMT and EFL students, and we now also offer an After-School Service in Cork city. We also organise holiday day-camps for Irish children during the Halloween, Easter and Summer school holiday.
French Pupils: Our yearly trips to Achill Island, Co. Mayo are organised for children with a reasonable level of english already. During this trip they will get the opportunity to practise their current skills and broaden their vocabulary base at the same time. They do this through a full immersion course where all activities take place in English with EMT teachers. They also take part in a number of cultural events during their stay including local schools and musuems.
Irish Pupils: New this year our After School service will provide a calm and positive environment conducive to learning. The children will get professional guidance for homework exercises which help to reinforce work covered by their own teachers. However we are also about having fun and making the most of the time the children spend with us. On a daily basis they will have access to a variety of activities which we feel will help them develop their social skills and self confidence. Introduction to new languages from an early age can have a positive effect on children, and can improve their oral languages skills in their native language.
Director: The Bilingual Connection was set up in October 2011 and is run by Cate O'Connor. Cate has a B. Ed.(with French) from Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. She taught for 2 years in Limerick, then for another 3 years with EABJM International School in Paris, France. teaching a range of subjects including English, Science, Music and Art to children aged 4-16.In 2006 Cate set up her own school in Paris (The Roaming Schoolhouse) which provided Afterschool Lessons for Bilingual children and Day Camps during the school holidays. She returned to Ireland in June 2012 and continues to bring French students to Ireland every year.
In September 2013 Cate will open The Bilingual Connection's After School Service in Cork city, where students can come when they have finished their school day. They will get supervised individual attention with regard to Homework allocated by their own schools and they will have the opportunity to experience a variety of other organised activities including Drama, Arts & Crafts and of course an introduction to a foreign language and its related culture in a positive and fun manner.
